Bugs no more! Keep rice fresh the smart way.

Repel with smell Stash some pandan (screwpine) leaves, bay leaves or dried chillies in your rice container, as the smell of these herbs will keep any little critters away. Fret not, this doesn’t affect the flavor, however, do remember to change the leaves every few months as they might lose their power. Fight with the freezing cold Store uncooked rice in the fridge and if you don’t have enough space to cramp your container in, keep it in the freezer for 4 days to kill any eggs, larvae and bugs. Kill with heat Spread your rice on a baking sheet and bake them in the oven on low heat for one hour. If you don’t have an oven, place them on a microwaveable plate and let it spin for 5 minutes to kill the bugs. Next, wash, rinse and dry your rice before keeping them safe in an airtight container to avoid anymore from creeping in.
